Oh, Cerfennia
Cerfennia was an ancient fortified town (oppidum) of the Marsi people located in ancient Marsica, Italy. It was populated by herbalists and those who practiced ancient nature-based medicine. Today, Cerfennia's location corresponds with the modern town of Collarmele in Abruzzo.
I think about the hills every day
I still smell the thyme, crushed beneath footprints
I hear the trickle of running streams formed by thousand year old fountains
and I watch in my minds eye as flocks of sheep flow life rivers down the hillside
I cry at the beauty of it all
The eternal stillness of the countryside
Far away from the bustle of anything modern
Its rural beauty struck through my heart and refuses to leave me alone
I daydream about running away here
Of harvesting mud and honey
I dream of living slowly
Gathering herbs, of wild horses
and dogs that lead and follow
The oil paintings out every open window
I can’t stop thinking about this humble paradise
Can’t get its impressions out of my head
And now
If you were to ask me where God lives
I could show you
